History

historie01.jpgKlenkes Open is played on the course of Aachen Golf Club. Aachen Golf Club was founded in 1927 and is consequently the oldest golf club in the Dreiländereck, the region where three countries meet. Aachener Golfclub 1927 e.V. is located to the west of the city of Aachen, at the foot of the Schneeberg, close to the border of the Netherlands.

In the starting years the course only had nine holes, which were completely destroyed during the Second World War. However, with a lot of care and suitable construction measures, the AGC finally grew into an 18-hole course by the end of the Seventies. Today the course is captivating through its beauty, which is characterised above all by the old tree population and partial wonderful view. From a sports viewpoint, it challenges the players with its tightly cut lanes, which are also bounded by high trees, and with its small and unpredictable greens. In addition, the slightly hilly topography provides varied and interesting game situations for the players.

historie02.jpgIn its 75 years the AGC can look back on a long sporting tradition, highlighted by H.O. Krings (President of the European Golf Association), diverse national players and the winning of the Willy Schniewind team prize.

The youth work is also a symbol of this club’s sportiness. This image is perpetuated by the annual Klenkes Open, the Aachen City Championships.
